Super volunteer Mark Tempest awarded National Philanthropy Day award

Each year, National Philanthropy Day (NPD) on November 15 celebrates those who offer their time, talent and financial support to make a difference in their community. In 2020 the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) and the Edmonton & Area Land Trust were proud to co-nominate one of our super volunteers, Mark Tempest, for this award.

Mark has volunteered with NCC’s Alberta Region for nine years. During this time, he has attended more than 30 volunteer events and donated more than 200 hours of his personal time. Mark’s passion for nature and conservation is evident to anyone that has had the opportunity to work alongside him. Whether it be rolling up barbed-wire fence or counting pollinators, Mark takes on any task he’s given with enthusiasm and curiosity.

NPD is a day to recognize the great contributions that people have made to the enrichment of our world, and to reflect on the meaning of giving and all that it has made possible. This day was first organized in the 1980s and is now an annual celebration of the philanthropic community.

This November, the Edmonton Chapter of the Association of Professional Fundraisers hosted a virtual celebration, during which Mark was awarded the NPD award in the environment category.

Not only is Mark an incredible supporter of NCC, but he supports many other environmental organizations in the Edmonton area. The only times he misses a Conservation Volunteers event is when he has to make a tough decision between two organizations hosting volunteer events on the same day!

If there is an opportunity to support conservation in the Edmonton area, chances are Mark will be there.

Mark is an exceptional individual. We are very thankful for his contributions and support.
