The forum concluded with the adoption of the Nairobi Declaration, reaffirming a shared commitment to inclusive and sustainable urban transformation across Africa.

Promoting Safer Livelihoods in Fishing and Aquaculture

Fishing remains one of the most dangerous livelihoods for many coastal communities across the Western Indian Ocean, particularly within small-scale fisheries where access to safety equipment and resources is limited. During the Safe Livelihoods in Fishing and Aquaculture Workshop organized by Ocean Centres Kenya and hosted by Global Compact Network Kenya in Mombasa, stakeholders highlighted the urgent need to strengthen occupational safety awareness, improve access to protective equipment, and support community-centered solutions that protect fisherfolk while sustaining coastal livelihoods.
